Prima SELECT Polypropylene (PP) is a semi-rigid and lightweight material that is commonly used in storage and packaging applications.
Prima SELECT PP from Prima Filaments has been developed for high optical clarity without sacrificing its mechanical properties. Prima SELECT PP has very good layer adhesion and produces a very smooth surface when printed. Prima SELECT PP is perfect for low strength applications like hinges or straps.
Prima SELECT PP is one of the “go to” materials when it comes to prototyping and end user products. It is one of the most common materials used on the planet due to its high toughness and fatigue resistance. Prima SELECT PP has a good heat resistance at up to over 100 ˚C. The material is also resistant to most chemicals and acids including strong industrial cleaning agents. Prima SELECT PP has high electrical resistance and is not sensitive to moisture. Due to the low density of the material the finished prints are very light weight.
A great argument for Prima SELECT PP is that the material is dishwasher and microwave safe which, of course, opens up a new range of possibilities for this exciting material. Prima SELECT PP is also fully FDA approved and in compliance with EU regulation No 1935/2004 on materials that are intended to come in contact with food.
Prima SELECT PP has poor adhesion to normal build surfaces like BuildTak, glass or PEI sheets. The best way to make Prima SELECT PP adhere well is to use ordinary packing tape or a Polypropylene sheet. A heated build plate is also required. Enclosure is recommended but if you print smaller models you can make it without enclosure.
You can print Prima SELECT PP with your stock hot-end. No special nozzle is required.
Why should I use PP?
- Dishwasher & Microwave safe
- Very good layer adhesion
- FDA approved for food contact
- High resistance against chemicals
- Good fatigue resistance
